Technology Requirements

The minimum technology requirements outlined below highlight hardware and software needs that will help you to be successful in an online environment. It is incumbent upon you, the student, to have the software and hardware necessary to complete the course. If you experience financial hardships due to these requirements, please reach out to the Office of the Dean of Students at 303-273-3550 or Raise Your Hand for support.

Hardware

Desktop or Laptop Computer

Computer capable of running Windows 10, Mac OS 10.8 or newer with the latest operating system, at least 8GB of RAM, 2GHz CPU and 1024 x 768 resolution monitor.

Computer Microphone and Speakers

USB headset with microphone recommended. 

Webcam

Built-in webcam for laptops or USB webcam for desktop

Reliable, High-Speed Internet Connection

Students should have 6Mbps download and 1.5Mbps upload speeds or higher. 

Students are responsible for their ensuring their internet connection provides adequate bandwidth (i.e. data usage) limits as some courses may utilize significant amounts of data. Check your internet speeds here.

Department Requirements

Please check with your department for any additional program-specific requirements that may supersede the hardware or software requirements listed in these minimum requirements.

Software

current Web Browsers

The latest or recent version of Google Chrome, Safari, Edge, or Firefox with JavaScript enabled and accepts cookies are recommended. 

Mines VPN Access

VPN access is available on the Mines VPN page.

Productivity Tools

Students may use a variety of productivity tools, such as OpenOffice, Google G Suite, Office 365, and iWork to create text documents, presentations, and spreadsheets. Check with the department on specific file type (e.g. PDF, DOCX, etc.) requirements.
